Peek A Book Clothing Swap and Kids Clothes Week Wrap Up

This past weekend was my daughter’s 3rd birthday. She chose a princess theme and wore the dress I made her for Halloween last year.

It’s pretty beat up by now so I was glad it made it through the birthday. I’ll just have to make another one a little bigger for dress up this year! 🙂 (Maybe in cotton, just sayin’…satin is a mess to work with!)

So you know it was Kids Clothes Week last week and that I had some swap items due. I was being top secret to make it fun for my swap buddy, but the items were delivered Saturday so the coast should be clear! If you’ve not participated in a crafty swap before, it’s so much fun! This particular swap was through the Peek A Boo Pattern Shop facebook page, organized so that we were matched equally (as best they could). So our swap partner had a boy and a girl that I got to sew for and she sewed for my boy and girl!

Our swap partner lives in Hawaii so they had no need of winter clothes and were looking for something other than Hawaiian print. I made her DD the Savannah Pleated Party Dress in this bright, happy Alexander Henry Fabric I had in my stash. I got the Grosgrain Ribbon at Hobby Lobby for the belt.

I chose the cap sleeve and pleated front options, but the pattern offers sleeveless and plain front options too! I just love the classic feel of the pleats. 

Since I got my Kam Snaps pliers, I’ve been Kam Snap Happy so I used pink snaps up the back.

For the boy, I made another Classic Oxford Button Up Shirt, this time in a bright Teal and Red plaid I got at F&M Fabrics.

I instantly loved this plaid and had fun placing the yoke and the front pocket on the bias.

I love how the buttons I found really bring out the dark blue stripe.

For bottoms I chose the Castaway Cargos for their style and comfortable knit waistband. I also found this red twill at F&M Fabrics and even though it’s not the darker red predominate in the shirt plaid, it matches well with the lighter shade and coordinates without being matchy-matchy. There are front pockets…

…& of course, cargo pockets. I made them with the extension so they’re nice and full, but to simplify, you can do a flat pocket with no extension. 

There is also an option for a back welt pocket.

Last Thursday I shipped them off to Hawaii and can’t wait to hear back how everything fits!

We received our swap items from Hawaii a couple weeks ago, but I don’t have pictures yet so stay tuned! The kids really love the items they got and beg me to wear them every day, but they are for fall/winter and it was 104 this weekend! I really recommend a swap if you’re interested. It’s fun to get to know other sewers and the kids really enjoyed receiving handmade gifts in the mail!
