This year my kids opted for store-bought costumes, which gave me a chance to make a new costume for myself! I chose Rey from Star Wars, specifically her outfit from The Last Jedi.

We don’t do much to celebrate but it’s fun to answer the door to trick or treaters while all costumed up myself!

S8718

I used Simpilicity 8718 and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The pattern includes a sleeveless shirt with a facing. Not my favorite neckline finish, but completely acceptable for a costume!

The vest has a high collar and peplum. I was really excited to find this textured fabric with the help of Caitlyn at F&M Fabrics. It’s really a necessary element for looking the part!

The pants are like lounge pants with an elastic waistband and knit fabrics. Just add a quilted knee pad to look more like Rey!

And, of course the arm “wraps”, which are really just really long tubes of fabric that taper a little to fit your wrist.  The smallest size in the size range I ordered was a little too big, but it’s super comfy and feels like pajamas so that’s a win in my book!

Additional Costume Items

The other item I made was a pair of spandex bike shorts for my daughter to wear under her Wonder Woman costume. Those skirts are paper thin so these shorts should make her comfy and free to move. I used the Made for Mermaids Bonny Leggings pattern for these. There are a ton of options including long, capri, shorts & shorties and an optional attached skirt.

There is an adult sized legging pattern from the sister company Patterns for Pirates called Peg Legs. You can grab a copy here.

I got all my fabrics for these costumes from F&M Fabrics, online as TheFabricMarket.com. Did you make costumes this year? I’d love to see them! Please feel free to share in the comments or on my facebook page! Have a wonderful and safe Halloween!
