Itch To Stitch Anniversary | Paulina Hack

Itch To Stitch Anniversary Sale & Giveaway | Paulina Hack | MadeByJaime

Itch to Stitch Birthday Fun

(scroll to the bottom to enter to win!)

Hey everyone! I’m back again on the blog with another Pattern Designer celebration! Don’t you love a good celebration?! As you can see, there is a great giveaway  – daily as well as a grand prize so you’ll want to check back with Itch to Stitch* every day of the blog tour, today through October 14th, and scroll to the bottom of this post to enter!

Last year, I enrolled in The Pattern Workshop* class by Lauren Dahl of Baste + Gather. Upon enrollment, I was added to a facebook group with all the other students. It was there I met Kennis of Itch to Stitch Designs and, soon thereafter, tested her first pattern, the Marbella Dress (love this dress!!). Kennis has released 9 additional patterns this year – shorts, tops and dresses – and since I had just finished a dress, I thought a top would be a nice change of pace. Thinking on to my fall wardrobe, I chose to hack the Paulina* pattern.

Itch To Stitch Anniversary Sale & Giveaway | Paulina Hack | MadeByJaime

The Paulina top is for you, “If you want comfort and style at the same time…Pair it with leggings and boots, skinny jeans and heels, or capri pants and flats…” The original design includes

  • Knit top with woven contrast
  • Comfortable raglan sleeves
  • Relaxed fit cropped bodice
  • Underlay contrast with shirttail hem
  • Peekaboo cut outs below armholes
  • Wide neckline
  • Twelve sizes (00 – 20)

In order to “hack” the pattern, I decided to switch the shirt layers so the knit was underneath and the woven was on top. The woven is a chiffon diamond print I chose from my stash, but I originally bought it at F&M Fabrics, online at TheFabricMarket.com. You can find it here (at $3.99/yd!) and they also have it in a black and cream here.

Additionally, I omitted the peekaboo cut outs below armholes. The original Paulina has a very classic style, but I think the swapping of fabrics gives it a sporty element.

This top was a quick sew and everything went together perfectly. For personal preference, I will definitely be adding length to my next Paulina, but it is for sure a style I see myself wearing all fall and winter. Cozy but definitely not frumpy, which is great for a busy mom!

Uptown/Downtown Dress

Welcome to one of three stop on today’s Sew Straight Patterns Blog Tour! We are celebrating of the release of The Uptown/Downtown Dress Pattern! Be sure to read all the way to the bottom to learn how you can enter the giveaway AND get 30% off the Uptown/Downtown Pattern now through August 16th!

Uptowndowntownptgraphic

If you follow my facebook or instagram feed, you saw I posted a picture of my serger admitting that it was time to use it to it’s full potential. Well here’s what I made with it!

UptownDowntownFront

The Uptown/Downtown dress, available in sizes 2T – size 10! Isn’t it adorable? I made the entire dress on my serger using a 5-thread safety stitch and the cover stitch, but the good news is, you don’t need a serger to make this adorable knit dress! UptownDowntownSide

The Uptown/Downtown dress goes together in a flash and makes a comfy and adorable back-to-school and every-day dress. You can make it sleeveless, with cap sleeves (shown here) or with half sleeves.

UptownDowntownBack

Elise’s measurements fell under the 2T size in the chart so that’s exactly what I made with no alterations. She loved the dress immediately and didn’t want to take it off. She just had to wear it to church the next day!UptownDowntownSideSmile

All the pattern pieces wen’t together perfectly! I chose the binding method, but there are also instructions for using a lining for sheerer knits or just for warmth. Overall I’d say it was a win and a pattern we’ll make over and over!UptownDowntownG

New Patterns & Pattern Sales

Thursday is always an exciting day for me – First of all, it’s my down day. The day I get to veg, or sew, or catch up, and generally go nowhere. The second reason I love Thursdays is because a lot of pattern news seems to happen the last half of the week. {This post contains affiliate links}

As I mentioned last week, Peek a Boo Pattern shop is launching their Spring Line! Last week they released the Boardwalk Hoodie & Henley. This week it is the Castaway Cargos – and today only they are 15% off regular price!!

Peek A Boo Castaway CargosNow you all know how much I LOVE Blank Slate Pattern’s Coastal Cargos (I blogged about them here and here). But I am so intrigued by the knit waistband in these cargos – I think they would be PERFECT for little guys and gals who aren’t big enough for a real button and zip waistband yet. They can be made for boys or girls and in shorts or pants with a size range of 3 months to 12 years!

In other great pattern news, Blank Slate Patterns is having a Charity Sale this week! From Designer Melissa Mora:

This week is Congenital Heart Defect awareness week. As this is an issue that hits close to home (one of my sons has a CHD) I am running a sale and donating 50% of profits this weekend to the Children’s Heart Foundation. Now through February 16, you can get 10% off your order with the code HEART2014. Or, if you’re buying 4 patterns, use the code BUY4GET5 to get a 5th pattern for free!

Blank Slate PatternsSo it’s a great day to plan some weekend sewing! I have made several patterns from these shops and have loved every one of them so you are sure to be thrilled with the finished product and have a great time making something your little ones will love!
